Debate topic

This house believes that maids are better than mothers.

For everyone's information, Hui Ying, Joseph, Kristian and Xue Xian are participating in a National Debating competition next Wednesday. We are competing against Nanyang Primary on the first round. If we succeed, we will go on to the second round on the same day. We are in the midst of our preparation and I hope you can give them your strong support and encouragement.

The motion for the second debate is as above. We will be the opposition, so we will be opposing the motion. We need you to be the devil's advocate and give comments on why you agree with the motion and why maids are better than mothers.

Post your comments as early as possible. This topic will only last for a week before we get to the next one. There will be one winner for the person who gives us a strong point in supporting the motion.

February's Winner

Firstly, I'd like to congratulate all those who have participated actively in our discussion. Without you people, this blog would not work. We must find a way to get the other 25 'missing' people to log on.

Your ideas have shown maturity and thoughtfulness in the way you have expressed the. These are good as these are gems that you will use in you oral conversation during the oral examination. Don't feel that you are limited by the topic, just speak your mind.

My heartiest congratulation will be to Xue Xian for his comments. How are his different from the rest? Many of you speak of competition as those amongst your friends, as in the school context but in Xue Xian's he is speaking in real life terms and how do we react if we are actually competing with others? Shake their hands and congratulate them when they win. If you watch sport channels on television, this is what you would observe before and after a game. Winner or loser, we all have to behave like good sports persons.

A special commendation would be Kristian's comments. Thank you for your thoughts, Kristian. It was excellent too.

For our next topic, it'll be something that we need everyone's brain juice.

The Competitor in Me

Thanks for those thirteen who participated in our last topic! Congratulations to TingKiat for winning January's 'Thought of the Month'.

In February, I'd like to talk about competition. I think I've said before that I am a competitive person. I'd also like to work hard to win something. But we have heard the phrase 'Winning isn't everything.' I'd like to hear from you. What is your take on competition? Do you enjoy competing? What do you compete in? How do you feel if you or your team loses? Does it matter? If winning isn't everything...what is?

Finally, remember to update your blogs. I've been looking and for some of you, there is need to work on jazzing it up!

Being in Primary Five

I' sure you are graoning and moaning about the amount of work that you are having in Primary Five. How is it different from being in Primary Four? Is there any difference in the way your parents are treating you now that you are ELEVEN?! Or do you feel that you are more responsible now that you are suppose to be older. Post your comments here.
