Thanks for those thirteen who participated in our last topic! Congratulations to TingKiat for winning January's 'Thought of the Month'.
In February, I'd like to talk about competition. I think I've said before that I am a competitive person. I'd also like to work hard to win something. But we have heard the phrase 'Winning isn't everything.' I'd like to hear from you. What is your take on competition? Do you enjoy competing? What do you compete in? How do you feel if you or your team loses? Does it matter? If winning isn't everything...what is?
Finally, remember to update your blogs. I've been looking and for some of you, there is need to work on jazzing it up!

hello. I am shirui. I agree that winning isn't everything. I feel that we should tresure kinship or friendship more than winning a competition. If you ignore your friend because you want to win a competition or just flare up anyhow you want especially when they did not did somthing wrong. Maybe they will just leave you like that. You do not know what they will do.
If I join in a competition, I will put in all my effort to do it, and try to win it.I will not care about the result but i must make sure that i enjoy it otherwise it is meaningless for me even though I join the competition. It does not matter to me if I lose the competition and I will not cry over a small thing like that. I can treat it as a experience for me, learn from my mistake and work hard the next time.
Remember my advice, maybe it is useful for you the next time when you have the same thing happen to you.BYEBYE!!!
Hi , this is Qi Qing. ^^
In my perspectives, I sort of have the same sentiments as Shi Rui.
Winning isn't just about winning.
Some people, who , just for the sake of winning, cheat. And definetely , they will be guilty-conscious for a long time to come unless they stop that habit.
Alright, I guess you can say I'm pretty competitive. For example, I'm taking part in the SYF of Modern Dance. Even though I'm still new to the CCA , I've already created strong rapport and bonds with most of the seniors. As such, I really thank them for accepting me into the team even though I'm pretty pathetic when it comes to dancing, and what's worse, my part of the dance is BALLET.And gosh, I can't tell you guys how much my ballet sucks. I've had not had any dancing experience, but these people around me, along with the instructor, told me that no matter what, all I need is practice. Real practice, that is, with all your concentration and determined spirit.
I know I've had a naive mentality of crying over spilt milk when was about Primary 2 . I also blamed many people, saying they were not competitive enough, etc;. That was when I only showed the childish, naive and immature side of me. However, now I've grown out of that mentality. Whenever I take part in a competition, first of all , I make sure to trust my teammates. Your team has to be trustworthy of each other, because without teamwork, how can you possibly win? In a team competition, you can't just rely on yourself, thinking you're like, the strongest lead. Even if you are a leader, some people might be better, perhaps just that they have not discovered their talent and full potential? Everyone will be able to succeed, as long as they pick themselves up from their failures and keep trying. For those of you who knew me since Primary 2, you know that during Primary 2-3, my running speed was extremely slow and I didn't dare to play most games, like Captain's ball and such . But now, I have to say, I really improved. If you compare my running speed in Primary 2 which was about 5km/h -.-, of course now I can easily and practically exceed that speed. =.=" And last time when I was Primary 2, when you wanted to pass me the ball, I always failed to capture it, didn't I? But at least I can help now , sometimes. Unfortunately, some who do not share the same sister-ship with me like Celine, Huiying and so on, they still think I am an incorrigible player. Oh well, I guess some people's personality can never change, bu it's alright. Come to think of it, I think I have a passion for Basketball. Isn't it fun? Then, I can also shoot up miraculously and surprise some you guys ! :3 HEHEHE. xD
If I ever take part in any competition, I'll make sure to excel to my highest limit and put in my best effort. From now, I want to be more mature, in a way to stop flaring up over spilt milk. Let's see ... here are some of my strong points, I think. (look, I'm definetely not being proud or haughty by showing off my strong leads, just stating a few only. Kindly DO NOT feel insulted. -.-" Like I said, I THINK.) I do not know, but it's up to you guys. Possibly good at Science? I think I'll take up Chemistry. It seems pretty easy, talking about the basic atoms of water (H2O, O2) and so on and forth. What interests me most is probably the refining of the crystals? I'm not really sure because I've not read my brother's chemistry textbook for ages. Haha, that's because he's 18 this year and has just passed his O Levels, and I must say his results are pretty good- 3 A1s and 2 A2s, and this will give you 7 points. The lower your points, the better. I think there're 6 subjects to be tested? Woah, didn't know I'm so long-winded when it comes to Science -.-". And er, blogging. HAHA. >< Thanks Celine for passing your skills to me. HOHO. Ok, so I've had a blog since late Primary 3, thanks to Celine. :D:D For those of you who know me pretty well, I guess I suck at ballet as I'm kinda... rough -.- but when it comes to Street dance or Hip Hop... I'm pretty unsure. What do you guys think? Oh yes, there's another topic I want to rant on being competitive.
Of course you guys all know what is the Young Author's Scheme. Know my previous storybook, Magical Destiny? (YUCK THAT IS REALLY DISGUSTING AND HORRIBLE STORYBOOK. CAN I VOMIT BLOOD ! T_T) I HATE IT.Fortunately for me, I still had the mentor, Ms Khoo, phone number. :D So when I sent her a message about mew writing a story, she agreed and of course, I was over the moon. :D:D I've already completed the prologue, and it's in my blog. Please go to my blog, which is melancholicheart--x3.blogspot.com , and comment! Thank you! <3 Alright I guess I'm done. Gotta continue on my story. Well then, see you! :D
I also agree with them.Talking about competition, aren't we are having now?The competition that we are having is also competitive now.Eversince I won, everyone has woke up and tried theirbest in writing all the things they know.
Lets talk about my CCAs.You know why I have 's'?It's because I have been going for two different CCAs before. They are chinese dance and choir. These two CCAs has only one competitive competition, which is SYF.
That phrase to me is correct, but some people will not think so.All they want is to win.If they did not win, they blame others.
I still remember the scene in P3. As you know every yaer there is interclass.I was under frisbe , which I liked playing. That time when we are in the competition, one of our opponents,Garry, cheated. Everyone in the team said he was cheating , but the judges did not agree. That time though he cheated , I did not blame him.I said nothing. Then , after the competition,Garry said "fat pig, loser, loser, fat pig"I cried because of that. I was very angry too.I did not care we win or lose but I wanted revenge. I did not do anything in my bare hands. It was then P5, he joined the frisbe thingy again.I cursed him that he will drop the frisbe bla bla bla.
Of course I like competing as they are challenging. Having different competitors makes it challenging. If you know all of them, there will be no fun. Competition is to verify our abilities and which level we are in.Such as this competition, you need to experience some things then you will understand that winning isn't everything. Most important is to try your best and never give up.
Let me continue from paragraph 2. SYF is the most competitive competition for me as I do not know what is the other schools level and abilities. So, I feel it is competitive. You have to hit what the judges expects or even do better then they expected. For dancing you have to dance gracefully and correctly. The rest such as creativity is all to the teacher who teaches. For choir, it is more difficult. You have to get your notes right, singing loud and soft and there are even more like feelings for the song.If I did not win for the SYF, I will just go home and think about what did I did wrongly that pulls the choir down?like that.
By the way,(hehehe) I hope to win again.(but I think that is fat hope.Soo many friends catch up with me!!)
Cya for the next topic
bYe!Can anyone come in my blog? Why no one come in my blog sob sob. My blog: http://www.tingkait.blogspot.com
Well...
Winning isn't everything, and that's absolutely true. The most important thing is you have gained something new. Like for example, going to a competition gives me a new knowledge. Take a the Chinese Composition competition for an instance. Even though I did not win,I can learn what my mistakes were and learn from it. This is how we learn. Make mistakes and learn is the best way. Everybody makes mistakes, no one is perfect. When joining in a group competition, the best thing to do is to encourage your team members. If one of them makes a major mistake and the whole team loses the competition, it's alright. The best thing is to just try again. Like I say, everybody makes mistakes. So it is very wrong to scold your teammates for their mistakes. We should trust each other and co-operate.
Of course, winning is fun. But do not ever be over-confident. This happened to me once. When I was in primary 2, I got 1st in class for SA1. I was so proud and I became over-confident. During the next exam[which was SA2], I did not study really well as I was over-confident. Well, true enough, I dropped to 5th position. This incident really saddens me but this is the way to learn. Right? So I set my goals, to aim for 1st in class and I also remembered not to be over-confident. Yep, and I got my goals.
Like Qi Qing, I was always crying over spilt milk, blaming my friends for not catching the ball in the Inter-class or even PE games. Then, one day I woke up. Those selfish acts show the childish and immature side of me. What was the point of winning? Is it just holding up the medal or is it the friendship and knowledge?
Well...
I don't really scold my friends for not catching the ball often though[in primary 2]. It's just I swallowed all my anger down my throat. In my mind, I though "Why didn't she catch it? Is she blind?" That was really selfish of me but this is how we learn. Make mistakes and learn from it.
Now, whenever I join a competition. The word winning is not the most important of all. I will put all my 101% effort in it. What's the point of joinning if you do not put in effort? It'll be totally meaningless! So whenever you are participating in a competition, give in your best effort and I am sure you can make it. If you did not manage to win, I am sure that if you work hard the next time, you will really do well!
Of course, like other people, I love competing. Competing is a challenge to test your knowledge and skills. When I compete, I can test my skills and see how well I am or what I will need to improve.
So remember, winning isn't everything. You don't just win for the sake of winning. The thing is to do your best and learn from mistakes.
ROCK ON 5A! Good luck in the immunisation tommorrow also=D
Haha
Just stay calm, don't be afraid 'kay? =DDDDD ~~Hui Ying
Hi, i am wan fang,
in my opinion, winning isn't everything, if u win a competition but for that u lost friends or relatives it is really not worth it.
remembered one time P2, the lower primary sports, one of my frien did not do very well, my other friends all blamed her for it. I don't noe wat to say, but i noe that friend also felt very bad for losing the competition. In my heart, i do not blame that person because i noe how she feels. At P1, i dropped the cones and everyone blamed me. I felt so bad.
At P3 we lost the battle but i was amazed that we did not blame each other. Although we lost, we gain a lot of experience and a more harder friendship. Finally at P4, we won the silver medal and everone cheered. Although we did not get gold, we comforted our selves that the gold colour was ugly, it was better to have silver, and everyone became happy.
I just want to remind everyone, appreciate everything u hav. BB!
I agree with all of them winning is not everything but I LOVE competing too I agree with shermain very much you should treasure friendship more than winning. I also mus put all my effort into it and enjoy the experience. Sure I will be disappointed but there will be other chances too
I LOEV THE IMMUNISATION! HAHAHAHA ! don't tell me you guys are still hurting? -.-
aye, whatever >< . get well soon :D
Hello. I am shirui. comming back leaving a comment again.Just concerned about you all. Immunisation, are your wound still painful, having diffculties to move? Actually me too. Don't think it is a shameful or embrassed thing to tell other people.share your feelings to other people.><
[remember to post more comment ]
Hello dear friends.
I agree with everyone.
Winning isn't everything.
Sometimes I enjoy competing for I can test how good I am. I often compete with my friends. We often compete in drawing, sports, or games.
I feel disappointed when my team loses, but I will find out why I lose and learn my mistake. Most importantly, I will congratulate the winning team.
Although winning a competition is quite nice, but the most important thing is that YOU TRY YOUR BEST and ENJOY IT.
Goodnight,
Lin Meng Ju
Celine here.
I too, am a competitive person.
I also agree that winning isn't everything. In my opinion, winning is not just getting awards, etc.
It is just having fun.I have seen people losing and blaming on their friends just because their friends are not really good. But on the other hand, i had seen people losing but they still praised their friends and themselves for a good job.Even if their friends are not really good, they should have encourage them.Maybe that person will know how it feels when someone blames him for not doing well and causing the whole team to lose.
Everyone has failures once in a while.Same here.I had also lost in competitions.Once,i even cried when i lost a competition. But now that i have grown older,i feel that people shouldn't cry over small things unless its the olympics~ Take it as the american idol, when the judges told them they are not qualified, some of them actually started crying. I mean, its okay but didn't they heard of the saying, practice makes perfect? We must always practice and then strive for the best.
Losing is just the opposite of winning, so why do people take it so serious or unable to acept the fact that they had already lost?
I had lost in sports games because i was really lousy in it. But i believe that practice makes perfect so to be successful in winning, always work hard!Even though when i win, i would just keep quiet and maybe proud of myself? Once, when i won, i started to shout "YAY! I WON!". People around me started to say that i was boasting. So the best thing to do is just keeping quiet.
In all, losing doesn't matter. Its just having fun, team work and friendship.Who knows, opportunity may come kncoking on your door once again! Hope that happens to me too!
Hello, I am Yan Lin. Although I have heard some people say that winning isn't everything. Some of them don't mean it at all. When I enter a competition, I heard lots of people say that they don't care about winning. But in the end they will cry if they lose.
I agree with Qi Qing that we should not cry over spilt milk. So I will just try my best and have plenty of confidence.
I love competing very much. But I like competing with my friends more than with my enemies, as when I compete with my friends I feel a kind of enjoyment. But, sometimes they may also cheat.
Tis is another subject that I want to point out. When the person who cheats is your friend, you may not want to point this out and in the end, your friend wins the competion and you will feel guilty.
So please do not help your competitor win the competition and say things that you don't mean.
Of course, winning isn't everything. You should not be participating in a competition juz because you can win $$$ and a shiny trophy.Don't be a cheaterbutt juz because you wanna to win.You will be disqualified and people won't trust you.You should be participating because you want to have fun.If it is a match such as basketball, soccer etc. cooperate with your friends. At the end of the game,if you did not win, don't be a sore loser.Congratulate the winning team.Even if your do not have so much $$$,you are still rich in friendship. You should also have learnt about teamwork and cooperation.I have heard people scolding another person vulgarities. That is a very wrong thing to do.After all, it is only a game.It is not the end of the world. You can always take part in many other competitions.Even if you are not participating in the competition, you can cheer 4 ya friends and giv them the support the need.Come on,encourage them.If you win, good 4 you.Make sure you share the prize. After all,it was all your effort. You should know about the "acid river" game.It required a lot of teamwork. It also needed strategy. We had to put the planks vertically instead of horizontally.I am glad that the whole class was cheering.
I think that wining is not everything as there are more things around you that is more valuable. For example when you and your best friend are going for a competition and two of you are in different groups. In the end, your group won and your best friend will be mad at you. Altough you won, you lost your best friend.
i had went for competitions but i do not look forward to the results.
The most important thing is to have fun, get more experience and learn more things.
i went to the little red dot competition last year. i was a treasure hunt. Altough, i did not win but i learn more about my friends and it was very fun!!!
The SYF is coming and everyone in the choir is doing their best. There is also a very important thing to remember do your best in every thing. (studies, competition)
i think in some competition you can win as it is good for your school. If you won a competition you will make the school which is a good thing.
hello. I am shirui. I think that everybody is linking to my ideas. I think their ideas is gotten from me. maybe they feel the same??? got to go byebye
Hi! This is Afiqah. I think winning isn't everything because it's not like the prize you get is going to last forever. Love and friendship is more important than winning. If you win, you will get a prize. You can also buy that prize using money and money isn't so hard to find, not like love and friendship. You cannot buy love and friendship using money. Especially friends, you should be very grateful if you have a lot of kind ones. Friends that care for you and will always be there for you all the time are friends that you should take good care of. Don't take advantage of them just because they're nice. If you lose friends like this, believe me, friends like this are very hard to find once you lose them.
Love is also another important thing in life like friendship. If no one in this world loves you then that means you are alone in this world and no one cares for you. If your parents or teachers or maybe even friends scold you, please do not think that they don't love and care you, because actually they do. They scold you just because they don't want you to repeat the mistake that you made and learn from it. For example, sometimes I scold my friends because they are making noise in class when the teacher is teaching. So, I don't hate them. I just don't want them to repeat that mistake because they were being very inconsiderate of others that want to study and I also want them to pay attention so that they will not be lost and understand the subject well. If your parents also scold you, it doesn't mean that they don't care about you right? Of course they still love you. If not, why are they letting you go to school to study? If they don't love you, why do they want to make you clever? So, please remember my advice, they still love you no matter what.
I'm always the lousiest in PE. I don't know why. I think it's because it's so hard for me to catch a ball because everytime I try to catch one, I keep thinking that it will hit my face and there will be a lot of scars on my face. Just because of that, I don't get to join inter-class competitions. Last time my friends and I were PRACTISING Captain's Ball and had a so-called match during practise time. My friend couldn't catch the ball just like me, and because of that our team lost. My other team mates were so angry at my friend who couldn't catch the ball and scolded her. I think it was not nice of them to scold my friend. Anyway it's only during PRACTISE time. Just a PRACTISE, you don't even get a prize but I don't know why they have to be so angry. Those are friends that you can't have because they are not good and just because you made the team lose, they will scold you and won't be your friends eventhough last time you two were good friends.
In January this year, my Silat group, Grasio had a theatre competition. All of us practised very hard but we lost to other centres because we are a new centre and we don't have much people. I remembered our instructor telling us that no matter what happens, if we lose, we're still winners and what's the most important is that we enjoyed ourselves and put in a lot of effort to make everything go smoothly.
Just like now, we are having a competition on who has the best comment. Well, I wish good luck to all and may the best comment win!
Okay, that's all then. My hands are so tired because of typing fast! Till here then!
Take Care,
NuR aFiQaH

Umm.. Actually, I think the phrase "Winning isn't everything" is correct. We should never ever try so hard to win to the extent you for example, lose your friends, trust, and ecetra.. They are much more important than some prize. But if you do win, you should not take all the credit, but should give it to your team, for they are the ones who help you along the way during that particular competition.
Mdm Suriani herself once told me," To be a good leader, when you win, do not take the credit, instead, give to the rest of the team, for they are the ones who helped you. If you lose, take the blame, for you led them.."
When I join a competition, I never give up, even when the odds are against you. never give up. Strive hard. If you win, be a good sport: Shake the hands of your opponent, for the great compettition they put up for you!!! If you lose, also be a good sport: Shake hands, for you know you have done your best, and no other of your attemps can ever beat it!!! Also, keep your head held up high, and your back straight, for you are also creditable for your courage in competing in the competition!!!Also remember to always have fun, if you do not, what is the real point, aside for the prize???
My very last advice to all of you:
If you win, you get the prize,
if you lose, you get wise!
Nothing lost, something earned.
Be a good sport!!!
Kristian "Spyro"
I have actually been keeping myself updated of the ideas that are coming in from you guys. These are REALLY REALLY excellent and mature thoughts from my darlings! ( I can hear those BLAHHsss...and vomit.)
I am really going to have a hard time choosing the winner but I think that so far...all of you are great winners.
Today, Singapore has won the bid in the FIRST Youth Olympic in 2010! YAHOOO!!! Even though we are a small and a young country, we can be very proud of the success we have achieved. The success didn't come easy. Lots of planning and effort had to be put in. Well, to win it takes effort, you can't sit back and expect things to go your way. But after putting in that effort, sometimes things may not be so lucky for you. Congratulate the winner, reflect on what went wrong and move on.
I still remember failing for the VERY first time in my Maths exam in Primary 5. It was so humiliating and disheartening. But i realised, I was taking a lot of things for granted. I think that when we are competitive, it'll spur us to work hard. Without that desire, we won't be bothered. But we have to draw that line and remind ourselves that the outcome does not really matter.
I'm looking forward to 2010!
Mdm Su (burning the mignight oil to study....)
What the?!!?Why some people write soo long?"&^%$#@!*(+)I don't have that much things to talk about. It's like the ideas juz come to their mind.Their comments are too long 4 me 2 read.BORING!
Yeah, i do agree with xue xian that some of u wrote very looong comments, but that's ok.
I am also a very competitive person too, like celine.
And there's also another thing that i agree with kai ting: That we are talking about competition and we're in a competition. Haha. :D
Well, let me come straight to the point.
I also agree that competition are NOT everything, and that friendship and kinship should come first. You can have a competition anytime but not make a friend anytime you want.
If you just flare up anytime you want just because u lose, then it will be like one moment you are chatting happily with a friend, and the next you are having a competition and just because you lose, u ignore ur friends. I know that's not the right thing to do, but for some of us, i said some, and no offence, we will act that way(ignore our friends).
Of course, i will put in all my best and have fun at the same time too. Right? Having fun is better than just flaring up after you lose a competition.
And of course i will not cry if i lose a competition. Why cry over spilt milk? Just try harder the next time.
That's all i've got to say.Bye bye.
Maybe i'll write again some other time. Hee hee! :-P
